Sketch of the Day

When I get stuck or feel stagnant in art or even daily life I flip thru my piles of photos and quickly grab one and sketch it out. A sketch is like a rough draft. I use only one or two soft pencils, an eraser and no more than 30 minutes of my time. It is more about the process than the grande finale. I focus on lines, shadows and shape. I use sketches to figure out placement, composition and to understand how objects move or function. Best of all the sketch allows me to breathe, to be free and release whatever tension may be present. I do not always accomplish all or even any of what I set to do with my sketches in one sitting, but I know that if I keep at it, I will succeed. Happy sketching!
